Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been
David Bowie
Back in 1992, Healthy Aging® Month was first observed as a way to draw attention to the importance of healthy lifestyles for adults, 45-plus. Since no one wants to be considered old, what should those of us over 45 consider, in order to age in a healthy way and celebrate September as Healthy Aging® Month? According to Healthy Aging®, key areas are as follows:¹
Diet
Make healthy eating a habit! Diets such as the DASH diet or the Mediterranean diet are great healthy possibilities. Your doctor is a great source of advice.
Exercise

Find an exercise plan and stick to it. Walking, for example, is a great, low-impact way to get moving. Some follow the 10,000 step a day plan. Whatever your choice, just get moving!
Mental Wellness

Build your support system. Find individuals and peer groups that have your best interests in mind. Look for volunteer opportunities; get involved. Stay positive.
It may be cliché but, age is only a number.
By practicing good, healthy habits, each of us can find joy in those numbers going up!
Happy Healthy Aging Month!
