The Eyes Have It!

“You’ll put your eye out!” “Don’t look at the sun!” “Wear eye protection!”

I think we can all agree, our eyesight is one of our most precious senses. The ability to see allows us to enjoy art, keep our balance, recognize a loved one, or simply read a book. The health of our eyes is of critical importance to our overall health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, many people suffer from eye problems as a result of genetics, an accident, or the aging process.

As a matter of fact, operations on the eye are one of the fastest growing surgical procedures worldwide.

Refractive surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and lid repair surgery, to name just a few, are some of the fastest growing surgical procedures. According to the National Eye Institute, over 24 million Americans age 40 or older suffer from cataracts. And according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 14 million Americans aged 12 years and older have self-reported visual impairment defined as distance visual acuity of 20/50 or worse. Among them, more than 11 million Americans could have improved their vision to 20/40 or better with refractive correction. This has led to an explosion in the number of LASIK (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis) procedures to correct vision impairment. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, approximately 800,000 LASIK and PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) procedures were performed in 2010.

Hausted® Surgi-Chairs and Surgi-Stretchers

Eye surgery is a very precise and demanding procedure. The eye is a fragile organ, and requires extreme care before, during, and after a surgical procedure. This high level of care requires equipment that is as precise as possible.

Hausted Eye Surgi-Stretchers and Eye Surgi-Chairs feature a patented head section that allows the precise adjustment of patient head position. Fine articulation at the headpiece enables precise positioning of the head and neck. Dual operating control knobs allow infinite adjustability and precise movement of the head section and, once set, the position remains stable.

The Surgi-Chair offers ample access room under the head section for both superior and lateral procedures, giving the surgeon greater freedom of movement around the patient’s head. For the surgeon, a Full or Half “U” rest is available to properly support and position the surgeon’s hands during the procedure.

The Hausted Surgi-Chair is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) can own. With the ability to handle the patient’s pre-induction care, transport, treatment, and recovery, the patient can remain on the same unit to improve case turnaround and streamline patient handling.

Powered controls easily adjust the head and leg sections for patient comfort. Patients can also position themselves during recovery, which minimizes staff involvement and can help shorten recovery time. All of these features are packed into a small sized footprint.

For those who prefer the benefits of a stretcher, the Hausted Surgi-Stretcher has all the features of the Hausted Surgi-Chair on a stretcher platform. With four 8-inch casters the Hausted Surgi-Stretcher can be easily moved within a facility. Four-wheel brake and steer caster system is operable for all four corners. The easy-to-clean base features an oxygen tank holder and provides ample storage room for supplies. The power Hand Control operates the height adjustment, Trendelenburg Position, Backrest Adjustment and also provides Auto Contouring Adjustment for more efficient positioning of the patient.

And while we may not all have Bette Davis Eyes, Hausted Surgi-Chairs and Surgi-Stretchers can make the care and treatment of your eyes safer and more comfortable.
